Jacqueline Brown

An Avid Knitter and Lifelong Crafter

I’ve loved making things for as long as I can remember, but knitting really started for me when I was a kid. A family friend offered to give me “knitting lessons,” and I was all in. At the time, I was mostly making headbands, but I didn’t mind. I just liked the process.

After that, knitting took a back seat for a while. I didn’t pick up my needles again until I was 27, married, and raising two young daughters. I started with a simple child’s sweater, and that was it—I was hooked again. I stuck with children’s garments for a while, but I kept pushing myself to try more detailed patterns and learn new techniques.

About 16 years later, I finally made something for myself. I found a pattern and yarn at the Conshohocken Yarn Company and decided to go for it—a sweater and skirt set. The sweater had cable leaf details and bobbles, plus a matching hat. I even tracked down a local shop to machine knit the skirt.

That experience led me to a yarn shop where I ended up spending a lot of my Saturdays. The owner became a close friend, and I got to know so many other knitters. We’d talk through projects, share ideas, and help each other out. That’s really where I learned the deeper parts of knitting—gauge, fit, design, and how patterns actually come together. One of my early pieces could have sold for around $300, which felt like a big moment for me.

As my skills grew, so did my interest in doing more with knitting. I joined The Knitting Guild Association and started attending local chapter meetings. In 2026, I completed the Master Hand Knitting Program, which was a huge milestone.

Along the way, I also became a Certified Knitting and Crochet Instructor through the Craft Yarn Council in 2014. I’ve continued learning by attending events like Stitches East, Vogue Knitting Live in New York, and TKGA conferences.  These days, I teach at Main Line Purls and at local libraries, working with both adults and kids. I really enjoy helping people build confidence and seeing that moment when something finally clicks for them.

I’ve also started designing my own knitting and crochet patterns, which has been an exciting new direction. It’s a chance to bring together everything I’ve learned over the years and share it in a different way.

Knitting has been part of my life in so many different stages, and it continues to grow with me—through teaching, designing, and connecting with others who love it just as much.

If you want, I can make this shorter for a homepage or split it into sections for easier reading.
